She was raised in Riverside by her abusive, drug-addicted mother. Sara met her father only three times in her life because he was in prison.

Since the age of 9, Sara suffered from severe depression for which she was hospitalized several times. At the age of 11, she met a 31-year-old man named G.G. who molested her and began grooming her to become a prostitute. At age 13, she began working as a child prostitute for G.G. and was repeatedly molested by him. At age 16, Sara was convicted of killing him. She was sentenced to prison for the rest of her life despite her background and a finding by the California Youth Authority that she was amendable to treatment offered in the juvenile system. Life without parole means absolutely no opportunity for release, said Senator Yee (of California). It also means minors are often left without access to programs and rehabilitative services while in prison. This sentence was created for the worst of criminals that have no possibility of reform and it is not a humane way to handle children. While the crimes they committed caused undeniable suffering, these youth offenders are not the worst of the worst.

Please sign the petition--->

Confident, that I just saw a good movie

I'm one of those people that love to discover music and movies that haven't been force fed to me by mainstream media. Slowly looking
over all of the books. It had been many months since
I last found a book to take home from the Goodwill. I
was sure this time would be no different. Suddenly I
stopped and noticed a book. It couldn't of been because
of the ugly cover. It read Guest of a Sinner by James
Wilcox. I picked it up and began to read the front
insert. I wasn't even suppose to be in here. You see I
had planned out my whole day. I was gonna stay in
seclusion, locked in my house. Avoiding the world as I
try to find some balance in my life and get closer to
God. After a minute or so I leaned back and sat down in
a nice weathered brown chair. I stopped, looked around
at all of the people walking around me still shopping.
Here I was trying to read a book in which I had no idea
why I was reading. When just 20 minutes earlier I was in
my house doing that very same thing. Odd, but normal by
my standards, I guess. I must of sat there for atleast 30
minutes reading that book. Trying to figure out what made
me choose this one. I quickly related to Eric the main
character he was 42 single and much like myself he always
got the question "Now what was wrong with her: too short,
too smart, not pretty enough, she smokes, which one is it?"

After looking over the clothing area I found myself in the
music section. I stumbled upon a cd that would fit in
nicely with my already oversized collection. Just as I was
about to turn the corner I over heard this slight woman
maybe late 80's with white ratty hair say she hasn't went
to the movies since 1985. I found this statement to be very
profound. I slowly slipped over in her direction hoping to
notice who she was conversing with. He was an older Asian
gentleman maybe in his late 40's. As I stood there at
another book shelf trying to listen into their
conversation which had since moved onto the depression we
are in and how she hoped it wouldn't be as bad as the one
she witnessed as a child. I looked down to not give any
clue that I was listening in when I noticed a book. It
felt as if it was the only book on the shelf. Wisdom for
the way by Charles Swindoll. I pushed away all the other
ones and grabbed it. At this point it became clear to me
why I was not at home and why I was in the Goodwill. A
force outside my very own explanation had driven me out
and into this store.

How One Business is helping the unemployed

my real blog is at www.decemberhotel.net

3181 S.Norfolk St.

As we get older things change, we change. You see my
Mother is getting ready to move. The weird thing is
I think it's harder on me then it is her. She has
lived there my whole life. In fact she still has the
same phone number her and my Father first received in
1974. Sure it has been weird since my Dad died and she
has been alone.

Today I stopped by to rip out the basement carpet and
move out some furniture. She was in good spirits as
usual. I don't know why it's so hard for me to go through
this all. Change can be good healing. I can feel that
it will be good for my Mother to move into her next
chapter. I guess for me, it's still hard to let go of
the past. My brother Jeff and I have so many good
memories in that old house and neighborhood. With
that old house comes a great big stability. We were
raised in almost too much stability. But I wouldn't
go back and change it. My parents made mistakes
God knows Jeff and I made plenty enough to go around.
But their was an undeniable honesty and vulnerability
that crippled our house. But all the same it made us
strive and move forward. I love my family because we
are fighters and lovers. We made mistakes but we
always tried to learn from those mistakes and not let
them define us. I can look at my Brother and see both
my Father and my Mother in him. I think that's pretty
darn cool.

But for some silly reason it's breaking my heart to see
my Mother moving out of that house. So much of my life
I spent in that house. Almost all of my good close
friends have been in that crazy little house of ours.
I'm sure it's hard for her to still be there. When most of
the time she spent there was with my Father. From this
day forward I am gonna focus on the good things about
her moving out. I need to let go of the past. But not
forget all about those good memories I associate with it.
So many smiles, so many laughs. I guess all good things
on Earth come to an end.

Santa Claus Forgave a little boy today

I was sitting in church tonight, Christmas Eve of all
nights, listening to Pastor Robert speaking about the
life of Jesus. When it finally hit me, all of these
years I have been wrong. It was me. I was the one to
blame, not Santa Claus. All these years I have been
so mean to him and he didn't even deserve it. After
the service I walked my dearest friend Maria to her
car and gave her a good night hug. I then hurried
home. I knew what I needed to do. I had to get a
hold of Santa. I knew it wasn't going to be easy.
Years ago he stopped accepting my calls. So I knew
I couldn't call him. So I rushed the dogs inside
and jumped on the computer. Frantically I started
typing an email to him. It felt like my fingers
were moving a mile a second. I had to let him know
I was oh so sorry for all those years of unwanted
anger. But would he get my email in time before he
headed out to deliver presents?

Let me take you back a few years. I was 9 years
old. I was the worst kind of child. I was horrible
to my Mother, always talking back to her. I would
throw things at our dog Misty. I even harassed my
Grandfather from the roof of the house. Dropping a
tennis ball attached to a string and letting it
pound up against his window, then quickly pulling
it back up. I would pull the hair of the pretty
girls who wouldn't speak to me at school. I even
beat up poor Jason Clausen for no reason at all.
It was that very year that Santa stiffed me. I
woke up to no presents under the tree. I couldn't
believe Santa would do such a thing like that, to
me of all kids. The nerve I thought he had. I was
so mad. I wanted to cry but I refused. I didn't
want him to think he got the best of me. So it was
that very morning that I vowed I would make him pay.
So every year after that it was my mission to try
and make him feel as bad as I felt that one very
Christmas morning.

The following year we left out cookies and milk for
him, like we always did. Except this time I laced
them with exlax. I stayed up waiting with my brother
Jeff for Santa to come, Jeff just wanting to get a
glimpse of Santa. Unlike me, Jeff loved him. I just
wanted to see him eat those cookies, so I could laugh
at him. But of coarse we both fell asleep. Sure the
cookies were gone the next morning but I had no proof
to whether or not he had ate them. Jeff and I both
got presents. I was baffled. Santa had to know that
I was upset with him. Why would he give me gifts when
I felt this way towards him?

The next year fueled by even more anger because he
gave me presents. It felt like a slap in the face.
How dare Santa give me presents as if everything was
alright. Sure I was better behaved that next year, but
it wasn't because of what he did to me. I was hiding
at the bottom of the stairs. I had managed to trick my
brother into going to sleep. I told him we would take
turns waiting up for him. Little did he know I had no
intention of waking him up. I sat at the bottom of the
stairs with my bb gun, just waiting for him to bust out
of our chimney. I was going to pop him in the butt as
he bent down to leave us some presents. It was getting
really late. A few hours had passed by, still no sign
of Santa. All of a sudden my 6 year old brother Jeff
starts screaming for my Mom. I turn around and see him
running down the hall. Some how he woke up and
saw me with the gun and was scared I was gonna
shoot Santa. Well you can only guess what
happened after that.

Every year after that was the same. I would come up
with a plan to foil Christmas and every year my plan
would fail. Once I became an adult I was still full of
this bitterness in my heart for Santa. Every time
Christmas time came around I would complain about
everything affiliated with Christmas. It got so bad no
one really wanted to be around me anymore, probably
because my negative energy would bring them down. If
only I could take back all those Christmas' of not
living with the Christmas spirit inside of my heart.
So I sent off my email with so much desperation. And I
just sat there. Would Santa ever find it in his heart
to forgive me? I just knew I would never be right
without the forgiveness of Santa. I sat there for
minutes that seemed like days. All of a sudden it was
there. I couldn't believe it. Santa had written me back.
I was so terrified to open it. What if he told me he
couldn't forgive me. We both knew I didn't deserve to
be forgiven. So what if he didn't forgive me. How could
I go on living and feeling this way? So finally after a
few minutes of pacing the room, my dogs Gunner and
Harley staring at me from the bean bag across the room.
They must have thought I was going crazy. Finally I
gathered myself and ran over to the chair dropped into
it as if my life depended on it. I slapped the keyboard
and closed my eyes for a few seconds, and then I
reopened them to look at the screen. I began to read
what I was sure would be bad news. Holy hopping pig in
the blankets, Santa had forgiven me!! I jumped out of my
chair with great delight. I started bouncing up and down.
Then a feeling of calm came over me. I then dropped to my
knees and started to cry and laid my head on the carpet.
My dogs came over and rested their heads up against mine.
They too must have felt what I was going through in that very moment. I have never felt so full of peace. Thank you Santa,
you made this the best Christmas ever!!

Hall & Oates here I come

I'm going to the Hall & Oates show tonight. This list is comprised of albums that
for one reason or another I have grown to love over the
years. Some of them date all the way back before I was born.
I was a child of the 80's. So most of the 80's entries are
kind of nostalgic.

Many of these albums I dare to consider some of the best
ever written. I hope you enjoy the list and maybe even
feel drawn to check out a few that you are unfamiliar with.

Has The Church Become Irrelevant?

America's Christian heritage is both rich and deep. What most historians and educators refuse to acknowledge, our forebears understood clearly: it was mostly Christians and churches that formed and shaped the new land that became known as the United States of America.

For example, when discussing the brave exploits of the passengers on board the Mayflower, people seem to have forgotten that the voyage was mostly the endeavor of a single church congregation. And don't forget that it was Pastor Jonas Clark's male congregants who withstood British troops at Lexington and fired the very first of the shots heard 'round the world. The famous French historian, Alexis De Tocqueville, credited the pulpits and churches of Colonial America with inspiring America's successful War for Independence and subsequent prosperity much more than its institutions of learning, halls of Congress, or industries of invention. From the very beginning, America's Christians and pastors were intricately involved in the establishment and building of this republic.

Pearl Jam (Behind The Scenes)

This Danny Clinch-directed promotional video for Backspacer, Pearl Jam's upcoming ninth studio album, features previews of songs like "Just Breathe," new single "The Fixer" and "Got Some." I was overwhelmed with great anticipation. Just a few minutes before I was thinking to myself what song I thought would be a great show starter. I came up "Black" one of the better cuts from his first album "Musicforthe-
morningafter." Sure enough that was what they would open up with. By the time they launched in to the third song "Life On A Chain" a crowd favorite, it was clear we were in for a great show. Even though much of Yorns material is not high-energy rock and roll. But in concert even his slower numbers seem to have a little more muscle. Like "Paradise Cove" for instance. A stand-out from his new album "Back & Forth." Pete did a good job of tucking in the new songs between the recognizable favorites.

Every one there was sure to know Pete Yorn is a gifted songwriter and musician. But unlike many artists who seem to only be studio geniuses. Pete is also an awesome live performer. Pete and his band owned the stage through out the night. In fact the cover songs they chose to play
were perfect and further proved my point. Especially "Bizarre-Love Triangle" (New Order cover). They put a nice little twist on it. making it taste as if Pete had originally composed it. By the time the encore arrived I didn't want the show to end. They played a 3 song encore. Finishing the night with the energy blast of "For Nancy ('Coz It Already Is)" Which was a great way to end a perfect night.

The 25 Best Pearl Jam Songs

Pearl Jam is just one of those epic bands that totally
deserve all the praise that they get. The first collaboration in the series is 1967’s The Velvet Underground & Nico.

Beck’s Notes: For this first edition, after lengthy deliberation and coming close to covering Digital Underground’s Sex Packets, all present voted in favor of the ‘other’ Underground’s The Velvet Underground & Nico. So why do I seem to run into so
many Mothers when I'm at work who smoke when they are pregnant? I could swear it was popular knowledge that women who are pregnant with child should not smoke. Last time I checked it was no longer 1979, when we didn't have all the studies we do now that backup the point I'm trying to get across here.

Just the other day Jesus and I were at a customers
apartment. It was obvious to us that she was pregnant. To our amazement she lit up and started smoking. Usually we will keep quite cuz' its not really our business. But this time was different. I think neither of us could take it anymore without speaking up. She said she is really stressed out and that's why she is smoking. Which is a really poor excuse in my eyes. I wanted to ask her is it really worth risking her future child's health, because she can't find another way to

deal with her stress.

Here is a list of things that smoking can cause an unborn child:
1. Cigarette smoking during pregnancy can cause health problems to the

born child.
2. Cigarette smoking during pregnancy can cause ADHD.
3. Cigarette smoking during can affect a child's future academic performance.
4. Cigarette smoking during pregnancy can cause behavior problems.
5. Cigarette smoking during pregnancy can cause complications during birth.

5 Most Anticipated Movies of 2010

1. The Three Stooges

Plot outline: A brand new comedy based on the original exploits of Larry, Curly, and Moe, the Columbia Pictures comedy team from the 1930s and 1940s.

Director: Bobby and Peter Farrelly

Cast: Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro

Let's get this straight, it's not a biopic. It's not a remake of any particular Three Stooges short. Instead, writer/directors the Farrelly brothers are basically making a new Three Stooges adventure just with Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro stepping into the roles created by Larry Fine, Curly Howard, and Moe Howard, respectively. Will that work? I have no idea, I'm still baffled at the thought of Jim Carrey gaining weight and Sean Penn doing physical comedy.

2. The A-Team

Plot Outline: A group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed. Director: Joe Carnahan

Cast and Crew: Bradley Cooper, Bruce Willis, Common, Woody Harrelson

When I heard that they're making a feature-length version of "The A-Team", the first thing I thought of is, of course, Mr. T, badass (but cheesy) action and a sweet van. And we're hoping they stick to that formula as closely as possible. With A-class actors, like Liam Neeson, Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson and Common all rumored to be on-board, that still leaves some room for hope. And if director Joe Carnahan can pull this one off, it will be a huge hit. Otherwise, I pity the fool (Sorry, I couldnt resist.)

3. Alice In Wonderland

Plot outline: Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (as the Mad Hatter) take on Lewis Carroll's classic.

Director: Tim Burton

Cast: Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Sheen, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Crispin Glover, Christopher Lee

Who better to take on Carroll's cracked-out, drug-influenced Alice in Wonderland than Burton and Depp? Plus, the six of you who saw the first season of HBO's In Treatment already know that Mia Wasikowska will give a terrific, star-making performance as Alice. The only red flag? An odd March release date. I thought the combination of Depp and a big budget made for an automatic summer debut.

4. Iron Man 2

Plot outline: Tony Stark, with his buddy Jim Rhodes, squares off against Whiplash and the Black Widow while continuing discussions with Nick Fury about the Avengers Initiative.

Director: Jon Favreau

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson

Emily Blunt was originally going to be the Black Widow but had to drop out because of scheduling, so Johansson took over. Blunt would've been way better, but everything else about this film indicates lots and lots of awesomeness. Don Cheadle taking over the role of Jim Rhodes/War Machine from Terrence Howard? He'll knock it out of the park. Jackson, Rockwell, and Rourke? Yes, please. Jon Favreau back in the director's chair? If it's half as good as the first one, it'll still be one of the better movies of the year.

5. Grown Ups

Plot outline: thirty years after their high school graduation, five friends reunite for a Fourth of July weekend.

Director: Dennis Dugan

Cast: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello

Which Adam Sandler are we getting here? The upcoming Funny People Adam Sandler or the You Don't Mess with the Zohan Adam Sandler? The presence of Rob Schneider would seem to suggest the latter, but this one is an ensemble movie a rarity for Sandler and Schneider aside, it would be really hard for this good of an all-star cast to screw up. Plus, we just kind of like high school reunion stories.

free Album Download

Andy Mitchell began the first pieces of a new album in late 2008, a little inspired by the appreciation some had given his previous attempts, but on the whole disheartened that they were nothing special and not memorable enough that people would feel compelled to share it with a friend.

"It gave me the feeling that I hadn't tried hard enough, that there must be better songs I can make, longer time I can spend on vocals and recording, and wider sources of influence to widen the range in sound. There's a double dose of good news for fans of the Marvel mercenary. Reynolds says Deadpool will breach the fourth wall: Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, hes got to. I want to see him break the Great Wall."

Confirming what he recently told HitFix, Reynolds emphasised that he and 20th Century Fox were working to ensure that Deadpool close sticks as closely as possible to the Marvel comic-book: The studio's working on a script and trying to find a director. The main goal is to make sure it stays close to the source material."

So does Reynolds feel under pressure from fanboys? Im one of them. Ive always been a fan, at least for the last eight or nine years. I feel a bit of validation because I knew going into Wolverine that theres a huge fanbase for this and I dont think anyone else did."

SPOILER: One thing the annoyingly charming and funny leading man wouldn't go into was the little matter of that decapitation: That we wont speak of." So perhaps they haven't nailed the thorny problem of reattaching his head, unsewing his mouth and generally undoing the entire last act of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Still, it's comforting to know that the one name so far attached to the project is a die-hard fanboy, and we're currently basking in beautiful visions of a cross between Blade (without the vampires) and Ferris Bueller's Day Off (the bits where he talks to the audience): please don't burst our bubble.

Phil de Semlyen

Best Albums Of 2008

I finally finished my Best Albums Of 2008 list. Director Ross Ching was simply a longtime fan of the band when he made the clip for "Little Bribes", a track off Death Cab's recent Open Door EP.

He uploaded the time-lapse-crazed clip to the web, and next thing you know, his beloved band declared his video totally official. Plus: A press release tells us Ching has been hired by DCFC label Atlantic to film another project.

Best of all: Unlike most fan-helmed videos, this one does not suck:

The Living Years

This weekend my cousin Michael is coming into town from Missouri.
I haven't seen him since last summer. There is something about
spending time with family I don't see very often, that takes me
back to my childhood. And also consumes me with thoughts about
my own mortality. Michael's parents have passed on. My Father has
passed on. It's always weird for me to think we are all gonna die
someday. It kind of sucks, having to get old and watch the ones you
love die. Don't get me wrong I enjoy life. But hate the idea of
seeing loved one after loved one pass on. As much as I love my life
now. I often think about the past and miss those days. I miss the
many relationships I took for granted and are now gone. So I guess
I just need to keep on living for today and make the most out of
todays present relationships.

The Wonder Years

I want to share one of my favorite childhood T.V. shows. In fact it's probably still one of my favorites. As a child I loved The Wonder Years. Even though the show was based in a different time period. I still found myself relating to it week after week. The show was great at touching on what every kid went through growing up. So I picked an episode that is a well balance of all that it is to be a kid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt78yA0R1aw

No Line On The Horizon- U2

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 280px; height: 280px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KtBy__8E9k8/SbVf_sY7XLI/AAAAAAAAAC0/mI40Oxgc2PU/s320/nolineonthehorizon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311256883405479090" />
I'm one among many that always anticipate each new U2 album. The layoff between albums is always so tiring. So once the actual release date arrives. It's greeted with great relief on my part. One thing I have grown to like about the band is that with each new album they usually mix things up. And with each new album comes a different style and a different sound. Well this time around unlike the last two albums "All That You Can't Leave Behind" and "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" which were U2 by the numbers. Good but basic affairs which didn't take U2's sound to any new heights. This time around they seemed to come up with a bit of a retread again. With this new one
sounding like a bit of "Actung Baby" and "Pop." No new song structures or anything really diverse with different sounds. Musically we've already heard all this before. Which is fine considering they have probably already headed into the twilight of their career.

U2- No Line On The Horizon

My First Trip To San Diego

My friend Maria invited me to tag along with her to San Diego. She is thinking about relocating there. We spent little over 3 days there. The weather was perfect mid 70's pretty much the whole weekend. We stayed on the beach, you walk down the stairs and about 3 feet later you are on the beach. I couldn't of imagined a better scenario myself. She was a great tour guide. We visited plenty of beaches and many of the surrounding areas. Ocean beach and La Jolla were my favorite spots.

My last night there I found myself in the perfect scenario. I had the beach all to myself. So for about an hour or so I walked along the beach taking in God's creation. The sound of the waves hitting the shore is such a wonderful relaxing sound, it was so therapeutic. Just that very hour I spent along side the ocean made the whole trip worthwhile.

the Last Russian Emperor

This is a well put together video about Fedor Emelianenko the Russian MMa heavyweight king. Today Itook my car in for a standard oil change and a tire rotation.I was armed with my usual book and a book mark to boot. After hanging out for 15 minutes in the waiting room. One of the workers called my name. I went to the front, I knew what was coming. I feel like I'm pretty intune with my car. And I knew my baby "Sweet Silver" wasn't running quite right. Yes, I know I'm a dork for having a pet name for my car. Well anyways he gave me the bad news. It was going to cost me nearly 1000 big ones to get her feeling good again. Well I wasn't happy about it but what could I do. He told me it would be a couple of hours to do the work. So I decided I would go grab a bite to eat and do some shopping. I ended up at a thrift store, if you really know me then you know I love to find a good second hand bargain. Well I once again came up empty. I finished up at Angelo's I don't really like Angelo's. But I went anyways since it's pretty much the only cd store that isn't corporate owned. I ended up buying 4 cd's I didn't need.

After all that good fun I went back and dropped into my usual seat and waited for my car to be ready. An elderly couple ended up sitting next to me. I read my book for awhile, once I got tired of reading I found myself in a conversation with the husband. He was a former pilot in the military. He was in the Korean war. He was on an oxygen tank, so right away I had a soft spot for him. Probably because of how my dad struggled with one the last couple years of his life. He was a very interesting guy. I asked him and his wife how long they had been married, 62 years was the answer. Wow, I can't even find myself in a relationship that lasts longer than 3 days.
He really put me in my place. I had been feeling sorry for myself thelast couple of days. And after hearing how much he was in and out of the hospital. But didn't bitch about it or complain, he kept saying how blessed he was. And that he had lived such a good life regardless of how bad things were right now.

I got a kick out of watching them interact. It was really cute. At one point he was nodding off and his wife gave him a nice subtle jolt to wake him up. I'm stil blown away that they have been married for 62 years. We live in an age where it seems like everyone is getting divorced. So it's nice to see a couple endure and make it through all the ups and downs that life has thrown their way.

my real blog is at www.decemberhotel.net

I was on my way to go pick up some dinner. As I do so often I had both my dogs with me in my car. Gunner the bigger of the two dogs was in the backseat. With Harley in the front seat. Both dogs were hanging outside the windows. Well I was at a four way stop. When I noticed a lady that was turning onto the street I was on. Well she was giving me a weird look, and then she was staring at the backseat. So I turned around to see what she was looking at Gunner had managed to shut the window on his head. He was busy squirming around. I felt bad for him but I busted out laughing it was such a funny sight. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto. The blockage will be almost instantly removed.
2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.
3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs about lifting the toilet seat by simply using the sink
4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer
5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button
6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough
7. Have a bad toothache? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you will forget about the toothache

my real blog is at www.decemberhotel.net

How to Remove Windows XP's Messenger

Upgrading to Windows XP

How to make your Desktop Icons Transparent

Speed up your browsing of Windows 2000 & XP machines

Set Processes Priority

Remove the Bin from the Desktop

Make your Folders Private

20 things you didn't know about Windows XP

Music and Audio with XP

Add Album Art to any Music Folder

Radio and the Windows Media Player

Playing DVDs in Windows XP

Today was a good day

After almost 2 weeks I was finally able to go workout. I hurt my shoulder lifting weights. And I had been forced to rest it. I hate not being able to workout. So I figured I would give it a shot today. My shoulder felt pretty good, a little tight but other then that pretty good. But the real test will come when I actually exercise my shoulders. It's been a pretty frustrating process. This injury couldn't have come at a worse time. My body had been in peak condition. And I was on way to meeting my goals by July. In fact my muscles have never been this cut. Sure I've been a little bigger. But I would much rather be cut than big anyday.

All in all today was a good day. Most importantly I got to spend some time with the woman that was responsible for bringing me into this world. We had dinner together and had some good conversation.

10 Magnificent Music Videos

Music has inspired me as long as I can remember. I have always appreciated a great music video. In an age where Mtv no longer lets music guide its way. I still manage to find a way to search out good music videos. I wanted to share a few of them with you. Most of them are thoguth provoking. I hope everyone that watches them will go away finding something that inspires them. Personnel executives of 100 major American corporations were asked for stories of unusual behavior by job applicants. Her are some of their stories. I'm sure like myself you will find some of these stores pretty darn funny.

Said he was so well qualified [that] if he didn’t get the job, it would prove that the company’s management was incompetent.

Stretched out on the floor to fill out the job application.
Brought her large dog to the interview.

Chewed bubble gum and constantly blew bubbles.

She wore a Walkman and said she could listen to the music and me at the same time.

Balding candidate abruptly excused himself. Returned to office a few minutes later wearing a hairpiece.

Announced she hadn’t had lunch and proceeded to eat a hamburger and French fries in the interviewer’s office.

Man wore jogging suit to interview for position as financial vice president.

Said if he were hired, he would demonstrate his loyalty by having the corporate logo tattooed on his forearm.

Interrupted to phone his therapist for advice on answering specific interview questions.

Wouldn’t get out of the chair until I would hire him. I had to call the police.

Had a little pinball game and challenged me to play with him.

Bounced up and down on my carpet and told me I must be highly thought of by the company because I was given such a thick carpet.

While I was on a long-distance phone call, the applicant took out a copy of Penthouse, and looked through the photos only, stopping longest at the centerfold.

During the interview, an alarm clock went off from the candidate’s briefcase. He took it out, shut it off, apologized and said he had to leave for another interview.

A telephone call came in for the job applicant. It was from his wife. His side of the conversation went like this: “Which company? When do I start? What’s the salary?” I said, “I assume you’re not interested in conducting the interview any further.” He promptly responded, “I am as long as you’ll pay me more.” I didn’t hire him, but later found out there was no other job offer. It was a scam to get a higher offer.

He came to the interview with a moped and left it in the reception area. He didn’t want it to get stolen, and stated that he would require indoor parking for the moped.

Candidate said he really didn’t want to get a job, but the unemployment office needed proof that he was looking for one.

Asked who the lovely babe was, pointing to the picture on my desk. When I said it was my wife, he asked if she was home now and wanted my phone number. I called security.

She threw up on my desk, and immediately started asking questions about the job, like nothing had happened.

Pointing to a black case he carried into my office, he said that if he was not hired, the bomb would go off. Disbelieving, I began to state why he would never be hired and that I was going to call the police. He then reached down to the case, flipped a switch and ran. No one was injured, but I did need to get a new desk.

Asked if I wanted some cocaine before starting the interview.

my real blog is at www.decemberhotel.net

After work today I decided to take my dogs for a walk. When I got back home Ashley was pretty excited to see us. She's an adorable little 4 year old that lives next door. She loves to pet the dogs especially Harley, whom she often gives a hug to. In a matter of a couple minutes I had most of the neighborhood kids hanging out in my front yard. After about 15 minutes they got bored and took off up the street. At that point I was about to head inside, when I noticed my soon to be neighbor Brandy showed up with her black lab Charlie. I thought to myself this would be a good chance for Gunner the bigger of my two dogs to get to know her. They really hit it off, they chased eachother around the yard for atleast 15 minutes. While I took advantage and used that time to get to know my neighbors better, since I just recently moved into the neighborhood.

After all of the adults went inside I was in my yard getting ready to go inside. When I noticed Ashley crying. I quickly asked her what was wrong. She ran upto me and wanted me to look over her hand. I guess her older brother Jacob bumped into it while he was riding by on his bicycle. I slowly massaged it for her hand and comforted her until she said she felt much better. She is such a cutie. At that very point in time made me really wish I had kids of my own. I just adore the sweetness and innocence of children. It's too bad that over time the world strips them of that innocence. You have to admire the joy and laughter children bring into this world. I always look forward to my interactions with kids, especially Ashley. No matter what kind of day I'm having when I see that adorable little girl I can't help but bust out a big old smile on my face. I swear it's the little things in life that if we just took the time to pay attention to we would be happier for it.

The Superhero list must go on

So I got the idea to post a list of My Top 25 favorite comic book characters. I grew up digging on Superhero's, so naturally I think it's normal to share them with you. I'm unvaling the second part of the list to you guys. Once again remember this is not another greatest of list. It's just simply my favorites. For whatever dumb reason each one of them made it onto the list respect that. And don't tell me I am wrong. Because quite frankly it's all relative. But please feel free to tell me what you think of my choices.

bad luck stopped by for a few hours...

The day started off good. About noon is when everything headed downhill. I stepped out to goto the gym. As soon as I shut the door I knew I locked myself out of my house. So I had to jog over to my mother's house to get the spare key. Well wouldn't you know we couldn't find it. But we did find my extra car key. So she dropped me off at my house. I hopped in my car and headed over to Chuck's to let him know about my predicament. Then I headed to my roomates work. I have only been there a couple of times. Well guess what I drove around for about a half hour and couldn't find it. At this point is was pretty evident that I was going to be late to the wedding. I was so suppose to catch a ride with Crack and Chuck. At this point reality was telling me I was going to have to drive upto Lyons by myself. At this point I was pretty upset with myself I never lose my keys or misplace them. Well I guess I can no longer say never.

I arrived back at my mother's house around 4pm. The wedding started at 5pm. I called a locksmith they said they would be at my house in 10 minutes. So in a matter of maybe 2 minutes he was able to open my door. I gave him a tip even though he probably didn't deserve it. I quicked stumbled inside and called Chuck to get directions to the wedding. I quickly got dressed like I was Superman in a phone booth. I jumped in the car and hit the road. Well guess what? I forgot the directions at home. So I headed back home that cost me anotehr 10 minutes. So finally I got back in my car and started towards my destination. Well I just happened to glance at my dashboard. What do ya know. I was on empty, so I had to go get some gas. So finally I was back on the road again. I started to think about the day and my frustrations. I couldn't help bu bust out laughing. If you think about it all it was kind of funny. After that I popped in a U2 mix-tape and tried to enjoy myself. Traffic was good for while and then I hit a snag at I-270. Finally things picked up again on I-25. Just when I thought my bad luck was gone. I managed to get pulled over by a police officer right before my exit. But something happened, back luck decided to leave me. The cop gave me a warning. See not just good looking Blondes get off easy. Annoying sarcastic punks get off too.

I arrived at Jen and Travis's wedding around 6:15. Ofcoarse I missed the ceremony. But I did manage to make it before the reception started. The night ended up being alot of fun. Sure the day got off to a rough start. But as I always try to make the most of things. And ended up having a great day. I never let bad things ruin my day. Sometimes you can't control things that happen to you. But you can always control how you react to them. And that right there is half the battle my friends.

my real blog is at www.decemberhotel.net

Tonight I watched the Pursuit Of Sappyness, I mean Happyness which was based on a true story. Will Smith plays Christopher Gardner a struggling salesman in San Francisco during the early 1980s. Him and his wife Thandie Newton are having a really hard time making ends meet. Instead of sticking it out she decides to leave Chris and his son behind. What I love about this movie is that Chris doesn't mope around feeling sorry for himself. He immediatly faces his problems head on and never backs down. He has a goal and he never lets anything stand in his way of achieving it. Set back after set back comes his way, but he refuses to give up. The way Chris lives his life is so inspiring. Seeing all that he went through. I couldn't imagine dealing with that much adversity. And still finding a way to come out on top.

One of the best things about the movie is just watching the interplay between Will and his real life son Jaden. Who also plays his son in the movie. Jaden's acting really impressed me. For him to come alive in a role that is about as far as he could get from the real life he lives. If your looking for something that will move your soul then you should check this one out. This movie really moved me. It made me stop and think about how blessed I am. I have such an easy life compared to so many through out this world. It kind of makes me feel guilty. This movie may have it's flaws. But thats alright with me. I still loved it. I'm all for anything that inspires me and this movie inspired me.

Here are a few Inspirational Quotes

“We don’t see the things the way they are. I grew up digging on Superhero's, so naturally I think it's normal to share them with you. So over the next few weeks I will slowly introduce them to you. Now remember this is not another greatest of list. It's just simply my favorites. For whatever dumb reason each one of them made it onto the list respect that. And don't tell me I am wrong. Because quite frankly it's all relative. So here goes nothing I hope you enjoy taking a peek into my silly world of fantasy. I'm a dork and therefore I hope you don't use that against me.

G.I. Joe is Back....

If you haven't already heard Paramount Pictures is in the process of shooting G.I. Joe. I grew up watching the cartoon, oh how I loved it. I used to collect all of the figurines, and play with them in the front yard with my friends. I even remember losing Destro in a nearby creek . I searched that creek for hours looking for him. I never did find him.

The movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The back drop of the fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke with their slogan "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble " against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. The film is an origin story and Sommers says he plans to explain various strange aspects, from Destro’s metal mask to Snake Eyes’ lack of speech.

Here’s the official plot for the movie. From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite co - ed G.I. JOE team, based from it’s headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos.

I'm most excited to see Snake Eyes in action. He was always my favorite character. He is being played by Ray Park, known for his performances as the acrobatic Darth Maul "Star Wars: Episode I" and Toad in the first "X - Men." I guess he must be best suited for roles where he has to perform physically and beneath a costume. But I guess their is a good reason for that. He holds a second degree black belt in Wushu and came in second place at the 1995 world championships.

The cast includes Dennis Quaid ( General Hawk ), Channing Tatum ( Duke Hauser ), Arnold Vosloo ( Zartan ), Chris Eccleston ( Destro ), Karolína Isela Kurková ( Cover Girl ), Sienna Miller ( The Baroness ), Ray Park ( Snake Eyes ), Rachel Nichols ( Scarlett ), Adewale Akinnuoye - Agbaje ( Heavy Duty ), Said Taghmaoui ( Breaker ), Marlon Wayans ( Ripcord ), Joseph Gordon - Levitt ( Rex ) and Byung - hun Lee ( Storm Shadow ). This live action G.I. Joe film is being directed by Stephen Sommers ( Deep Rising, The Mummy, Van Helsing ) and is set to be released 7th August 2009. I can't wait to travel back down memory lane. I hope I don't get let down with these high expectations of mine.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://decemberhotel.blogspot.com/2008/04/gi-joe-is-back.html' title='G.I. We got off to a good start, I think the final score was 24-7. I know what you're thinking who plays kickball. I have to admit it's pretty fun. Even when we lose I have a good time. After the game I had to umpire the following game. One of the teams that was playing hadn't losed in over two years. I'm not a big fan of them. They are kind of cocky. And they can be bad sports. For example they were killing this poor team 30 something to 4. The game was almost over and they were arguing a call I had made. I wanted to say come on give me a break, can't you just let it go. It got me thinking that sometimes people can be so consumed with winning that they can forget to have fun. Sure I love to win just as much as the next guy. But ultimately I just want to have a good time. It's such a shame some people can ruin it for everyone else.

Goto my real Blog http://www.decemberhotel.net

Every once in awhile I will stumble upon a record album in my collection that I think the masses need to digest. Once again I found a little ditty that I absolutely loved when it came out in 2006. Just recently I re-visited it forthe first time in over a year and it felt new and fresh allover again. Andrew Osenga is the artist I speak of. He is an intelligent song writer that has gone virtually un-noticed. Andrew showcases his excellent story telling through out the disc. Song after song continue to draw you in, refusing to let up.

Love Rain On Me

Over the weekend I managed to watch to very powerful movies. I don't watch too many movies, so it's always a pleasure when I get to. The first of the two was the Sean Penn epic Into The Wild. Probably the better movie, but not my favorite of the two. The movie is based on the real-life experiences of 23-year-old Emory University graduate Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch.) Who leaves the privileged life he has known to become a self-styled vagabond. On the road, he complaines about the evils of ''society,'' and he nurses family wounds: the father (William Hurt) who was a materialist, and violent to his mother (Marcia Gay Harden) who enabled him. What happened to him on his journey transformed him into an enduring symbol for countless people. A fearless risk-taker who wrestled with the balance between man and nature.

The second movie was the post- 9/11 Reign Over Me. Adam Sandler plays a traumatized widower who lost his wife and children in a 9/11 plane crash (Charlie Fineman.) Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle), a successful Manhattan dentist, finds himself overwhelmed by his responsibilities toward his family, including his beautiful wife Janeane (Jada Pinkett Smith), their children and his demanding business partners. Feeling increasingly detached and discontented, he's almost grateful for the chance to focus on someone in far worse shape, that ofcoarse being Charlie. The two were once roomates back in college, who have lost contact with one another over the years. Both are now hurting in different ways. In fact thats the major thing that ties both of these movies together. They both deal with the pain of life and the brokeness of man. Everyone of us is broken in someway or another. Most people are just really good at hiding it, like myself.

Both movies managed to make me tear up. Especially Reign Over Me, during that one I found myself really wanting to let it out. I really wanted to cry. But for some reason I couldn't. In fact I can't remember the last time I cried. I have carried this guilt with me for over a year now since my Father Arden died. I never cried when he died, why I don't know. I loved him, he sacrificed a lot for us. Unlike himself I am a pretty happy person. But just like him I have an ever-evolving struggle with sadness that chases after my soul, day after day. Some days, some weeks I manage to outrun it. But as of late it's running side by side with me. Making me evaluate life and the people that I share my life with. For some odd reason I have been focusing on the brokeness of man. And I'm finding it everywhere. So I don't find it weird that my friend Tim suggested we watch Into The Wild. Or that after viewing many choices to choose from I stopped on Reign Over Me. I truly believe that focusing on positivive things in life is the way to go. But why do I always end up at negativity's door-step. Now that I have once again recognized this struggle I have. Things will go back to normal. I will slip back into my happy positive ways. Until negativity slowly creeps back. It could take weeks, usually it's many months, before I fight that battle again. Now I will rid myself of the guilt of not crying when my father past on. I envy women for being so intouch with their feelings. Men are sometimes so detached from our feelings. I wonder why that is?

Weddings (reminder of it all)

Today I have the lucky priviledge of being invited to a wedding. Why is it that whenever you mention the word wedding, women seem to always geta smile on their face. I’m just a typical guy born and raised in a conservative caucasian family. And let me tell you when I hear the word, I don't smile. Not because I don't like weddings. Even though I do think they are overated. I'm not sure why I don't smile. Maybe it's the fact that I'm 33 single and have no wedding plans insight. In fact I don't even have a girlfriend in sight. At this point in time, I have just about decided to completely give up on finding that right person for me. It's such an endless struggle. Just about everyone I known says I'm too picky. But I don't think that's the case. Maybe I'm just way too cautious. I have seen alot of divorce all around me. And I'm really afraid of being just another divorce statistic. So I want to make sure the person I chose to spend the rest of my life with is the right girl for me.

Maybe I don't really like weddings because they are a reminder of the fact that I am still single. I always kind of had my future mapped out in my head and I'm not at that very place in time, I thought I would be right now. By nowI always thought I would be married and have a couple of kids. Now I'm to the point where I don't even know if I want kids anymore. I guess it's not thatI don't like weddings. Because I usually have a good time at them. It must be, I don't like the reminder of where I'm not at in my life. So one wedding today and one in a few weeks. May the wedding couples be blessed with marriage bliss. I hope they both end up with the story book wedding. Women always dream of. And cheers to myself, may I find much to smile about know matter what those weddings may remind me of.

The Remarkable Run is Over

The unheard of Davidson College fell short against the usual choking Kansas Jayhawks. Most of us were rooting for the underdog. What a great run they had. They fell one shot short.

Stephen Curry the son of former NBA sharpshooter Del Curry, despite all of the success he had in high school he went unnoticed by major ACC schools. Most of them thought he was too undersized to handle the physical nature of the college game. Last year Stephen led the Southern Conference in scoring. Averaging 21.5 points per game and was second in the nation for freshmen in scoring, to Texas' Kevin Durant, who ended up being the 2nd pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

Coming off of that stellar freshman season, Curry was eager to impress this year. And that he did, on February 13, 2008, Curry's 41 point game against the University of North Carolina Greensboro helped Davidson come back from a 20-point first half deficit. That right there defined the whole season for them. During the tournament Curry led them from one upset to the next. How exciting it was to watch them. Stephen may be getting most of the press. But the whole team played pretty well. I was glad to hear that after the game, Curry announced that he would return for his junior year. Lackluster ratings prompted CBS to cancel the show for a second time. This really frustrates me I don't watch much TV. And this is easily one of my favorite shows. And one of the best in my opinion. CBS tried to cancel the show last year. But a small rabid grassroots fan base. Spoke out and put an end to that. Unfortunately they axed it again. I'm hoping people will email CBS again voicing their disgust at the fading primetime network. They are so desperate for ratings they are airing an edited version of the Showtime hit Dexter. When I say we I mean Jesus, Nick and myself. We arrived outside of Lodo’s Bar and Grill around 4:10 am. The doors supposedly opened at 7:00 am. But in my opinion they opened a little sooner. What a journey it turned out to be. I ran into other friends who arrived much too late to have any chance at getting in to see. Under A Blood Red Sky (a U2 cover band) The Flobots ( a local band...the band I really wanted to see) and finally Goldfinger. I managed to leave the line and head into The Giggling Grizzly to hang out with a few of those unlucky friends that lost the fight. But I never lost sight of the mission at hand. When I decided to make it back to the line we were at the head of the class. I thought for sure we would make it in time to catch all the bands in action. 2 hours later we were still stuck at the front of the line. The Fire Marshall decided to show up and regulate. After many hours of waiting around 10:45 we finally made it in. In time to catch Goldfinger and Goldfinger alone. They put on a good show. But I was still disappointed at knowing that we were short changed. So many people cut in line. Leaving us left out in the cold. We got there early enough that we should have seen all three bands. But the greed of many individuals who didn’t deserve to get in and see the bands. GOT IN!!

Oh well at least we made the most of it. In the next few days i will post the pictures from our extravaganza!!

Captain America where are you?

It's been almost a full year since the death of Captain America. His stance against Iron Man in the Civil War eventually led to his murder on the steps of the court house. The image of Cap lying on the court house steps should resonate with everyone, but you'll have a wide variety of opinions of what that image means. What it means to some is intense patriotism, or a dishonest ideal, maybe lack of interest, or they might see him as "The Man." It could be so many things. For me it's the death of a dream. The american dream so to speak. Growing up Cap was my favorite super hero. He was the one I could most relate too. Unfortunetly Cap fought his last battle in court. And look where it got him.

The death of Captain America can be viewed as a visible symbol representing the death of civil liberties here in America. That's the way I seem to see it. Some would like to believe he was killed off because morals, manners, truth and goodness. Are all of which a almost like a disease that people are trying to avoid. What better way to completely kill true decent living than to kill a super hero who possessed those very qualities. It's kind of ironic that Captain America the ultimate patriot and comic book symbol of freedom should die during the Bush Administration. Some will truly look back on these days as the death of America. And rightfully so, I guess.

We need CAPTAIN AMERICA now more than ever. We miss you my friend:(

For more on the late Cap, who's been a hero since World War II, go to his official biography here.

Errands with the "D"

On my day off, my boy Chuck and I decided to hit the town jogging. Gosh they are so frustrating all that talent, and they can't even play like a team. Their is no reason why they shouldn't be one of the top 3 teams in the NBA. I bet they don't even make the playoffs. It looks like George Karl is coaching his last season here. I like Karl but it's probably for the better. I don't think the team is responding to him anymore. I get a very random call on my cell phone. I check the voice mail having no clue who left me a message. It turned out that my friend Maria from high school had tracked me down. It was such a delight to be so surprised. I instantly called her back. We spent a few minutes reconnecting. A few times over the past few months I had thought of her. So it's so cool to have heard from her. We plan on getting together here soon. She was always a good friend to me in high school. You can never have too many good people in your life.

Feeling Unknown

So this place feels like home. It feels so right living here. I truly believe I made the right decision moving here. This is where I belong. In fact I have to make a confession. The last few weeks have been great. Life has been so good to me. And it's nice to feel like I'm truly enjoying myself. I have met some great people lately. And have seen some uglieness from a few. But thats alright. No matter what I always find a way to smile.

Harley is still adapting to having Gunner around. I think he loves having Gunner around. But I can tell that he gets jealous of me giving alot of love to Gunner. He's not built to know that Gunner needs more love right now than he does. I think if I give it alittle more time he will adapt. And everything will be cool.

The Plan to Replace the Dollar With the 'Amero'

The idea to form the North American Union as a super-NAFTA knitting together Canada, the United States and Mexico into a super-regional political and economic entity was a key agreement resulting from the March 2005 meeting held at Baylor University in Waco, Tex., between President Bush, President Fox and Prime Minister Martin.

If President Bush had run openly in 2004 on the proposition that a prime objective of his second term was to form the North American Union and to supplant the dollar with the “Amero,” we doubt very much that President Bush would have carried Ohio, let alone half of the Red State majority he needed to win re-election. Pursuing any plan that would legalize the conservatively estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States could well spell election disaster for the Republican Party in 2006, especially for the House of Representative where every seat is up for grabs.
Continue

The Government Vote

The Candidates as follows:

Iraq Obama- I'm sorry I mean Barrack "Alabama" Obama. He's the feel good candidate. He says all the right things. His policies, well he doesn't really have any does he. But he carries himself with the coolness of James Dean. His message is aimed at saying whatever will make you feel comfortable and good.

Hillary "Rat"ham Clinton- Where do I start. She's your typical don't turn your back on me kind of friend. She's your class "A" deciever. She's the kind of person that tells you to your face your the best. And then she's telling her friend Kathy your a stinky snob. She's much too clever for her own good. In the end she will fall short. It all started tumbling downward with her fake crying incident.

Mike Huckleberry Finn- Who knows why he's still around. He must be positioning for Vice Presidency.

John Rambo McCain- He's far too liberal for the true Republican. Plus the country is tired of Bush's Republican party. Old man McCain is going to lose. He'll keep it close because of the tricks they will play to keep people from making the right vote. But in the end the one some have labeled the Antichrist Mr. Obama will win. His slickness will lead him to victory. Even though he doesn't have a true policy insight. Just another puppet for the show. Hey where's my popcorn?

Disclaimer: I made all this stuff up.
