I love having Mondays off because I get to take careof my errands and I get the house to myself. Today Itook my car in for a standard oil change and a tire rotation.I was armed with my usual book and a book mark to boot. After hanging out for 15 minutes in the waiting room. One of the workers called my name. I went to the front, I knew what was coming. I feel like I'm pretty intune with my car. And I knew my baby "Sweet Silver" wasn't running quite right. Yes, I know I'm a dork for having a pet name for my car. Well anyways he gave me the bad news. It was going to cost me nearly 1000 big ones to get her feeling good again. Well I wasn't happy about it but what could I do. He told me it would be a couple of hours to do the work. So I decided I would go grab a bite to eat and do some shopping. I ended up at a thrift store, if you really know me then you know I love to find a good second hand bargain. Well I once again came up empty. I finished up at Angelo's I don't really like Angelo's. But I went anyways since it's pretty much the only cd store that isn't corporate owned. I ended up buying 4 cd's I didn't need.
After all that good fun I went back and dropped into my usual seat and waited for my car to be ready. An elderly couple ended up sitting next to me. I read my book for awhile, once I got tired of reading I found myself in a conversation with the husband. He was a former pilot in the military. He was in the Korean war. He was on an oxygen tank, so right away I had a soft spot for him. Probably because of how my dad struggled with one the last couple years of his life. He was a very interesting guy. I asked him and his wife how long they had been married, 62 years was the answer. Wow, I can't even find myself in a relationship that lasts longer than 3 days.
He really put me in my place. I had been feeling sorry for myself thelast couple of days. And after hearing how much he was in and out of the hospital. But didn't bitch about it or complain, he kept saying how blessed he was. And that he had lived such a good life regardless of how bad things were right now.
I got a kick out of watching them interact. It was really cute. At one point he was nodding off and his wife gave him a nice subtle jolt to wake him up. I'm stil blown away that they have been married for 62 years. We live in an age where it seems like everyone is getting divorced. So it's nice to see a couple endure and make it through all the ups and downs that life has thrown their way.
