The unheard of Davidson College fell short against the usual choking Kansas Jayhawks. Most of us were rooting for the underdog. What a great run they had. They fell one shot short.
Stephen Curry the son of former NBA sharpshooter Del Curry, despite all of the success he had in high school he went unnoticed by major ACC schools. Most of them thought he was too undersized to handle the physical nature of the college game. Last year Stephen led the Southern Conference in scoring. Averaging 21.5 points per game and was second in the nation for freshmen in scoring, to Texas' Kevin Durant, who ended up being the 2nd pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Coming off of that stellar freshman season, Curry was eager to impress this year. And that he did, on February 13, 2008, Curry's 41 point game against the University of North Carolina Greensboro helped Davidson come back from a 20-point first half deficit. That right there defined the whole season for them. During the tournament Curry led them from one upset to the next. How exciting it was to watch them. Stephen may be getting most of the press. But the whole team played pretty well. I was glad to hear that after the game, Curry announced that he would return for his junior year. The underdog lives on...
